GAINESVILLE – At its Nov. 8 meeting, the Board of County Commissioners of Alachua County issued a proclamation designating November as Hospice and Palliative Care Month in Alachua County.Celebrated nationally, this focus on hospice and palliative care provides an opportunity to recognize the physicians, nurses, social workers, therapists, grief support specialists, health aides, clergy and volunteers whose skills, dedication and compassion each year assist more than 1.5 million Americans living with life-limiting illness and provide support for their families. Through pain management, symptom control, caregiver training and assistance, and emotional and spiritual support, hospice and palliative care teams make a difference at a critical time in the lives of these patients and their families.
“Hospice and Palliative Care Month also reminds everyone in our local communities that they are not alone at such times,” added Regional Director David Dingus in accepting the proclamation on behalf of Hospice of the Nature Coast. “They have many caring, compassionate neighbors willing to help them, support them and guide them on their journey,” he said.
