Shorty was retired and enjoyed his retirement. During his career he was a farmer, state employee, and finally business owner. Shorty farmed for many years on his farm in Fort White, Florida.  He was with Florida Department of Corrections and left with the rank of Lieutenant. Shorty and Bernice were former owners of Fort White FRM, The Florida Welcome Station and G &S Trees.  He was a great mentor and role model to many young people during his professional life.
