GAINESVILLE - For the first time since 2019, Alachua County Public Schools will be holding its annual Kindergarten Round-Up in person.

All elementary schools that serve kindergarten students will be opening their doors the afternoon of Wednesday, April 27 to incoming kindergarteners and their families. Children and parents/guardians will have a chance to talk to teachers and staff, tour the campus and learn more about their school.

Schools will start their Round-Up sessions sometime between 2 and 4 p.m. A school-by-school schedule is available on the district’s website at www.sbac.edu/kindergarten2022. That site also includes information on enrollment, the district calendar and the benefits of kindergarten.

The first day for students in the 2022-23 school year will be Wednesday, August 10. Under Florida law, children must be five years old on or before September 1 to enroll in kindergarten.

Parents can begin the online registration process for their incoming kindergarten students on April 18. Before school starts they would also need to provide to their child’s zoned school several documents, including a birth certificate, proof of a physical exam performed sometime within the last year, immunization records, and two proofs of residence in the parent’s name. Examples of a proof of residence include a lease agreement, a property tax statement, a utility bill or other documents. Parents may bring those documents to the Round-Up if they wish, but it is not required.

More information, including the online enrollment link, is available at http://www.sbac.edu/enrollment
