11-year-Old Arrested After Allegedly Threatening Juveniles with Gun

ALACHUA COUNTY – An 11-year-old boy was arrested after authorities say he threatened two other juveniles with a handgun during an argument early Saturday morning.

An Alachua County sheriff’s deputy responded Aug. 29 to an armed disturbance at a residence in the 1100 block of Southeast 41st Drive, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Two juveniles told the deputy they were in a bedroom when they saw the 11-year-old, whom they knew, outside on a playground. An argument began after the boy saw the two juveniles, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities allege the boy then took a black semiautomatic handgun from another person who was on the playground and approached the bedroom window.

The boy allegedly knocked on the window with the handgun and threatened to shoot the two juveniles.

The juveniles called out that someone was outside with a gun, prompting a guardian to go outside to investigate. The guardian reported seeing the boy holding the firearm and contacted law enforcement, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The 11-year-old and the person from whom he allegedly obtained the gun left before deputies arrived.

Deputies later contacted the boy at his residence and identified him as the juvenile accused of threatening the two victims, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The boy was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.

The Sheriff’s Office did not release information about how the other person obtained the firearm, whether the gun was recovered or whether anyone else faces charges in connection with the incident.

No injuries were reported in the release.
