ALACHUA – New parking restrictions are being implemented along a section of Northwest 140th Street following complaints from residents about roadway safety and parked vehicles.
The City of Alachua announced that beginning the week of June 22, parking will no longer be permitted along portions of Northwest 140th Street between Northwest U.S. Highway 441 and Northwest 142nd Avenue.
According to city officials, the changes are the result of a collaborative effort involving the City of Alachua, the Alachua Police Department and the Florida Department of Transportation.
The project follows concerns raised by residents regarding roadside parking and its effect on traffic safety in the area.
Under the new restrictions, locations where parking was previously allowed will be marked with white striping to indicate that vehicles may no longer park there.
City officials said the changes are intended to improve visibility for drivers, enhance traffic movement and increase overall safety for motorists, pedestrians, nearby residents and emergency responders traveling through the corridor.
The roadway serves as a connector between U.S. Highway 441 and surrounding residential and commercial areas, making traffic flow and visibility important considerations for both daily travel and emergency access.
Work crews are expected to be active in the area as the changes are implemented. Officials are urging motorists to use caution, reduce speeds and remain alert while workers are present.
Drivers are also reminded that speeding fines are doubled in construction zones when workers are on site.
With new restrictions are in place, the city and police department plan to enforce the no-parking zones. Vehicles parked in designated no-parking areas may receive warnings, citations or be towed.
The city said the improvements are aimed at addressing community concerns while creating a safer roadway environment for everyone who uses the corridor.
