ALACHUA COUNTY – Families with children enrolled in Alachua County Public Schools should soon receive personalized letters detailing school zoning assignments for the upcoming academic year as the district moves forward with a major rezoning effort affecting thousands of students.
District officials announced that letters are being mailed to the homes of all ACPS students living in Alachua County, regardless of whether their assigned schools will change for the 2026-27 school year, which begins Aug. 10.
According to the district, each letter will identify the schools assigned to the student’s address under the updated attendance boundaries and will provide additional information related to zoning exceptions, magnet programs and exceptional student education services.
The notices are being distributed in both English and Spanish as the district works to inform families ahead of the implementation of the new boundary maps.
The rezoning plan is part of ACPS’ broader “right-sizing” initiative, an effort district leaders say is intended to balance enrollment among schools while allowing the district to better allocate resources for programs, services and facilities.
Approximately 3,200 students — about 13% of the district’s projected enrollment for the 2026-27 school year — are expected to be impacted by the boundary changes.
Families who do not receive a letter by May 15 are encouraged to contact the district for assistance by emailing rezoningquestions@alachuaschools.net or calling (352) 955-7040.
Parents and guardians may also review updated school boundary maps and search school assignments through the district’s online address lookup system available through the district’s Future Ready Schools webpage.
The rezoning effort has drawn significant public attention in recent months as district officials worked through multiple rounds of proposed maps and community feedback sessions. School leaders have said the changes are designed to address uneven enrollment patterns across the county, including overcrowding at some campuses and declining enrollment at others.
District officials have also emphasized that families with students enrolled in magnet programs or receiving specialized services may have additional considerations outlined in the mailed notices.
The updated attendance zones will take effect for the 2026-27 school year beginning in August.
