ALACHUA – Earlier today, Chief Jesse Sandusky attended a Florida Department of Transportation award ceremony recognizing inmate workers from the Florida Department of Corrections who earned certifications through the inmate work squad program.
The program provides incarcerated individuals with opportunities to learn valuable work skills, build responsibility, and develop a sense of purpose. It also works with participating companies to connect individuals with employment and line up job opportunities before they are released, helping support a successful transition back into the community.
FDOT and FDC crews recently completed no-parking roadway striping within the City of Alachua. The work was completed professionally, efficiently, and in a timely manner, helping improve roadway visibility, organization, and public safety while minimizing disruption to the community.
During the ceremony, Chief Sandusky met with FDC Warden Clayton Smith and presented him with an Alachua Police Department Chief’s Challenge Coin in recognition of the program’s efforts and the professionalism of those involved.
The recent project is a strong example of how this partnership benefits everyone by improving our community while giving participants the opportunity to work, learn, and contribute in a productive way.
