ALACHUA – After more than 10 years with the Alachua Police Department and a law enforcement career that included service with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Officer Rich Pilgrim has retired from public service.
Pilgrim served with the Alachua Police Department from Aug. 3, 2015, until Jan. 7, 2026. During that time, he worked in patrol operations and later as a school resource officer, roles that placed him in direct contact with residents, students, educators and families throughout the community.
Pilgrim’s service as a school resource officer helped him establish lasting relationships with students, school staff and community members while serving as a visible presence on local campuses.
Before joining the Alachua Police Department, Pilgrim served as a detention deputy with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, beginning a law enforcement career that spanned years of public service in Alachua County.
The department recently recognized Pilgrim’s retirement during a presentation ceremony. Alachua Police Chief Jesse Sandusky presented him with a retirement shadow box commemorating his law enforcement career and years of service to the city.
Police officials expressed appreciation for Pilgrim’s dedication, professionalism and commitment to the community during his tenure with the department.
His retirement marks the conclusion of a career that included service in corrections, patrol operations and school-based policing, all aimed at supporting public safety and strengthening community relationships in Alachua.
