GAINESVILLE – Cheers echoed throughout the University of Florida’s O’Connell Center on May 30 as Santa Fe High School seniors celebrated the culmination of their high school careers during commencement exercises for the Class of 2026.
Family members, friends, faculty and staff filled the arena for the 6 p.m. ceremony honoring graduates as they prepared to embark on the next stage of their educational, professional and personal journeys.
The commencement program opened with remarks from Principal Kelly Armstrong, who welcomed graduates and guests to the annual ceremony.
Student leaders also took the stage to reflect on the accomplishments and experiences of the graduating class. Remarks were delivered by Senior Class President Wayne Boone, Student Body President Ramsey Stanley, Salutatorian Tessa Batt and Valedictorian Drew Cornell. Senior class speaker Jenelie Avila also addressed her classmates during the ceremony.
The graduation marked the end of four years of academic studies, extracurricular activities, athletic competition, community service and personal growth for members of the Class of 2026.
As students crossed the stage to receive their diplomas, they were met with applause from family members and supporters gathered to celebrate the milestone achievement.
The ceremony concluded with one of graduation’s most anticipated traditions as graduates tossed their caps into the air, signaling the official end of their high school years and the beginning of a new chapter.
Many graduates will continue their education at colleges, universities, technical schools and training programs, while others plan to enter the workforce or pursue military service.
For the graduates, the evening represented both a celebration of past accomplishments and a look toward future opportunities.
The sea of red caps and gowns that filled the O’Connell Center served as a visual reminder of the collective achievements of the Class of 2026 and the community that supported them throughout their educational journey.
As the final caps fell back to the arena floor and graduates gathered with family and friends for photographs and congratulations, Santa Fe High School’s newest alumni joined the ranks of those who have passed through the school’s halls and moved on to new endeavors.
