HIGH SPRINGS – Drivers who park along Main Street in downtown High Springs will need to make overnight parking plans beginning July 30 as work continues on a major state road resurfacing project.
The Florida Department of Transportation announced that on-street parking along Main Street — also designated as U.S. 27, U.S. 41 and State Road 45 — will be prohibited nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. between Northwest 184th Place and Northwest 188th Avenue through Aug. 14, weather permitting.
Officials said vehicles left in the restricted area during those hours will be towed.
The temporary parking restrictions are necessary to allow crews to continue resurfacing work as part of FDOT’s $7.2 million improvement project stretching from north of West Newberry Road (State Road 26) in Newberry to U.S. 441 in High Springs.
In addition to milling and resurfacing the roadway, the project includes base work, shoulder improvements, sidewalks and a bicycle path, updated highway signs, traffic signal work and other related construction.
To accommodate visitors and downtown businesses during the overnight closures, FDOT has identified several nearby public parking areas, including locations along Northwest 237th Street, Northwest 185th Road and Southeast Railroad Avenue.
The resurfacing project is being completed by Anderson Columbia Co. Inc., which was awarded the contract by FDOT. Construction is expected to continue through fall 2026, although the schedule remains subject to weather and other unforeseen conditions.
Motorists are encouraged to watch for construction crews, follow posted traffic signs and allow extra travel time when driving through the work zone.
FDOT also encourages drivers to monitor traffic conditions and construction updates through its Northeast Florida social media channels, the FL511 website and the FL511 mobile app.
