ALACHUA – More than three decades after its founding, the Sportsfest Golf Tournament continues to serve as one of the Alachua area’s signature community fundraising events.

The Alachua Chamber of Commerce’s 37th annual Sportsfest Golf Tournament was held June 20, 2026, at Turkey Creek Golf Course, drawing golfers, sponsors, volunteers and community supporters for a day of competition and charitable giving.

Traditionally held on the Saturday preceding Father’s Day, the tournament has become a longstanding community tradition that combines recreation, networking and philanthropy. Organized through a partnership among the Alachua Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and community organizations, the event raises funds that support educational and recreational programs benefiting area youth.

Participants from across the region gathered at Turkey Creek for friendly competition while also contributing to initiatives designed to enhance opportunities for children and families in the Alachua community.

The tournament is also known as the Jerry Smith Sportsfest Golf Tournament, honoring the legacy of a community leader whose commitment to civic involvement and service helped shape the event’s mission.

In addition to the golf competition itself, Sportsfest provides an opportunity for business leaders, elected officials, community organizations and residents to strengthen relationships and support common goals. The annual gathering has become a fixture on the local calendar, attracting returning participants and sponsors who view the event as both a fundraiser and a community celebration.

Alachua Chamber officials expressed appreciation for the many individuals and organizations that contributed to this year’s event, including sponsors, golfers, volunteers, Chamber members, committee members and community partners.

“Their generosity and commitment continue to strengthen our community and contribute to the tournament’s ongoing success,” Chamber officials said.

Organizers noted that the continued support of local businesses and residents has enabled the tournament to remain a successful fundraiser while preserving its role as a community tradition.

“The Alachua Chamber of Commerce is grateful to everyone who played a role in this year’s tournament and looks forward to continuing Jerry Smith’s legacy of service, community involvement, and giving back for years to come,” Chamber officials said.

As the tournament enters its fourth decade, organizers say its success reflects the strong partnerships among businesses, civic organizations and residents working together to invest in the future of the Alachua community.
