PUBLIC NOTICE Santa Fe College is considering applying for funding through the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR), part of the Rebuild Florida 2023 and 2024 Storms Infrastructure Repair Program. This program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered by FloridaCommerce. FloridaCommerce is making available $400 million in CDBG-DR funding for communities impacted by Hurricanes Idalia, Debby, Helene, Milton and/or the 2024 North Florida tornadoes. The College intends to submit an application and request approximately $5.3 million in grant funds in support of the following project: Gymnasium Facility Hardening (Estimated Cost: $5.3 million)
The Santa Fe College Gymnasium located in Gainesville, Florida, was constructed in 1979 and serves as a critical staging area for the Florida National Guard during post-hurricane recovery efforts. The facility has significant infrastructure needs. Proposed improvements include: Replacement of the existing roof, which has exceeded its useful life; Installation of a new chiller and boiler system; Addition of a back-up generator to ensure continued operation during emergencies; and Renovation of restrooms to improve accessibility and update outdated equipment.
These enhancements will ensure the Gymnasium remains a resilient and reliable facility for both the College and for emergency personnel during future disaster response and recovery efforts. Once completed, the improvements would allow the Gymnasium to function as a stand-alone operating facility in the event of an emergency and power outages at the College. A public hearing to obtain citizen comments regarding the proposed application will be held before The District Board of Trustees of Santa Fe College at 4:00 p.m. (or as soon thereafter as can be heard) on 09/23/25, at the SF Northwest Campus, Cellon Institute, 3000 NW 83rd Street, Gainesville, FL 32606. For information on how to remotely attend the meeting, or to arrange to provide public comments at the meeting, or for other questions about the proposed application, please contact 352-395-5170 or general.counsel@sfcollege.edu at least 15 minutes in advance of the meeting.
Anyone appealing a decision will need a record of the proceedings and should arrange for a transcript per FS s. 286.0105. Agenda available: President’s Office, 3000 NW 83rd Street, Gainesville, FL 32606 or 352-395-5170 or general.counsel@sfcollege.edu. For disability accommodations or communication access, please contact 352-395-5170 (accessible through any relay service) or email general.counsel@sfcollege.edu.
