CITY OF HAWTHORNE CDBG-CV / LOCAL FOOD BANK FACILITY

The City of Hawthorne will receive sealed bids from any qualified person, company or corporation interested in providing construction services to construct a new local food bank to stock its food pantry and provide medical and outreach services for a wide variety of needs. The project will include construction of a 14,664 square foot building, land preparation, construction of a parking area, stormwater facilities, construction of and installation of utilities. The project is federally funded with Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (Pub. L. 116–136) (CARES Act) through the U.S. Department of Urban Development (HUD) and awarded by the State of Florida Department of Commerce (formerly DEO) to the City of Hawthorne under CDBG-CV Agreement number 22CV-S19.

Bids will be received until 3:00PM (EST) on December 1, 2025, at the City of Hawthorne City Hall, 6875 SE 221st Street, Hawthorne, Florida 32640. This position is to perform responsible work supervising and coordinating the activities of utility crews, and engaged in the installation, repair and maintenance of the City’s utility systems. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in outdoor environments. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety standards. Utilities personnel are subject to call back and are required to rotate on-call standby duty. High School graduation, Valid FL DL, Six (6) years of field experience in water distribution or sewer collection facilities, four (4) years of supervisory experience, and State of Florida Water Distribution Class II License required. Salary: $23.00 to $27.00 hourly (DOQ), plus benefits.

Persons who may be entitled to exempt property under section 732.402, Florida Statutes, will be deemed to have waived their rights to claim that property as exempt property unless a petition for determination of exempt property is filed by such persons or on their behalf on or before the later of the date that is 4 months after the date of service of a copy of notice of administration on such persons or the date that is 40 days after the date of termination of any proceedings involving the construction, admission to probate, or validity of the will or involving any other matter affecting any part of the exempt property.
Unless an extension is granted pursuant to section 732.2135(2), Florida Statutes, an election to take an elective share must be filed on or before the earlier of the date that is 6 months after the date of service of a copy of the notice of administration on the surviving spouse, an attorney in fact or a guardian of the property of the surviving spouse; or the date that is 2 years after the date of the decedent’s death.
The personal representative or curator has no duty to discover whether any property held at the time of the decedent’s death by the decedent or the decedent’s surviving spouse is property to which the Florida Uniform Disposition of Community Property Rights at Death Act as described in ss.732.216- 732.228, applies, or may apply, unless a written demand is made by the surviving spouse or a beneficiary as specified under s. 732.2211.
Under certain circumstances and by failing to contest the will, the recipient of this notice of administration may be waiving his or her right to contest the validity of a trust or other writing incorporated by reference into the will.

Planning and Zoning Board: The Planning and Zoning Board (PZB) comprises five voting members and a non-voting School Board representative. The PZB provides recommendations to the City Commission on various development applications, such as comprehensive plan amendments, rezonings, and subdivisions, and reviews and makes decisions on certain development applications as provided for within the City’s Land Development Regulations. The PZB is also authorized by the City Commission to provide recommended policies and guiding action affecting development in the City, including amendments to Land Development Regulations, special studies, and other proposals that promote orderly development.
