Newberry Plans Historic July 4 Parade for America’s 250th

NEWBERRY – Newberry is planning an ambitious patriotic celebration this summer as city leaders prepare for a Fourth of July parade designed to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary with a large-scale historical tribute through downtown.

City officials are inviting residents, churches, schools, businesses, civic organizations and community groups from across North Central Florida to participate in what organizers describe as a once-in-a-generation event highlighting key moments in American history.

The parade, scheduled for 9 a.m. on July 4 in downtown Newberry, is expected to feature up to 100 floats portraying significant eras, people and events spanning the nation’s 250-year history. Organizers said the parade will move chronologically through American history, beginning with the Revolutionary War and the signing of the Declaration of Independence and extending through modern milestones including military tributes, scientific achievements and cultural moments.

Mayor Tim Marden said city leaders hope the event will bring the community together while celebrating the nation’s heritage.

“This is more than just a parade — it’s an opportunity for our entire community to come together and celebrate the story of America,” Marden said. “We want families, churches, businesses, schools, and organizations to help us create an unforgettable experience that honors our nation’s past while celebrating the future together right here in Newberry.”

City officials said groups are encouraged to creatively interpret historical eras and milestones through float designs and displays. Organizers are seeking participation from throughout the region, with opportunities to honor veterans, celebrate innovation and highlight different decades of American culture.

The July 4 parade is part of Newberry’s ongoing “America’s 250th” celebration series. In addition to the parade, the city is planning its annual Independence Day fireworks show July 3 at CountryWay Town Square, weather and drought conditions permitting.

Float registration is scheduled to open Thursday at 7 p.m. through Sign Up Genius. Additional details about registration and participation are expected to be released through the city’s website and official social media channels.

City officials said they hope the celebration will draw visitors and participants from across North Central Florida while showcasing local patriotism and community pride ahead of the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration in 2026.
