ALACHUA – Fall youth sports and recreation programs are getting underway in Alachua, with registration deadlines approaching for baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer and the city’s Music and Arts Program.
The City of Alachua Recreation & Culture Department is encouraging families to register soon, noting that programs will close registration once their respective deadlines are reached.
Santa Fe Babe Ruth Baseball and the Raiders of Alachua Softball are accepting players ages 4 to 15 for their fall seasons. The fall programs generally place an emphasis on player development, giving younger and less experienced athletes an opportunity to learn fundamentals and build confidence while continuing to develop their skills.
Registration also remains underway for youth volleyball, although available spaces are filling quickly. The first volleyball games are expected to begin later in September.
Fall soccer will include both Academy and Recreation opportunities. The programs focus on fundamentals, player development and teamwork while providing options for young athletes at different skill and experience levels.
For children whose interests extend beyond athletics, the Recreation & Culture Department also offers its Music and Arts Program, or M.A.P. The program provides opportunities for children and teens to explore creative interests, learn new skills and participate in arts-related activities.
One of the city’s fall offerings has already reached capacity. Registration for local football and cheer programs is full after participants began practices approximately a month ago.
Football and cheer teams will take part in the city’s division Jamboree on Sept. 12 and 13.
The Recreation & Culture Department cautioned parents that registration will not remain open after individual program deadlines. “Once registration deadlines have passed, registrations will be closed,” the department said in its announcement.
The fall programs are operated by nonprofit organizations with volunteer support. Organizers are also seeking volunteers to assist with programs and activities throughout the season.
Registration information, schedules, program details and updates are available through the City of Alachua Recreation & Culture Department’s website and social media channels.
