MICANOPY ‒ Crews from Alachua County Fire Rescue, Windsor Fire and Cross Creek were dispatched to a structure fire in Micanopy on April 19, 2024.
Upon arrival ACFR Engine 64 first responders found a two-story multi-residential structure with light smoke showing.
According to reports from the scene, responding crews made an aggressive attack and were able to quickly extinguish the blaze and prevent the flames from spreading beyond the room of origin.
Crews were able to rescue one dog, which received care from the crews, and was transported by its owner to a vet hospital. Two cats and five ducks were also saved, likely due to the quick extinguishment of the fire.
Unfortunately, one dog was reported to have perished in the fire.
As authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire, ACFR spokesperson said the public should always have an escape plan and a working smoke detector in their home.
