ALACHUA – A three-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian occurred on Sunday, April 28, at 3:25 p.m. in the vicinity of southbound I-75 at the County Road 241 overpass.

Vehicle 1, a 2019 Chevrolet 3500, driven by a 43-year-old Orlando man, was traveling south on I-75, in the center lane. Vehicle 2, a 2014 Chevrolet Suburban, which was pulling a car hauler trailer, was driven by a 27-year-old Kenner, LA man, was also southbound on I-75 directly in front of Vehicle 1. Vehicle 3, a 2016 Volvo tractor pulling a 2021 Wabash trailer, was driven by a 37-year-old Miami man, was parked (disabled) in the southbound emergency lane of I-75.

When Driver 1 attempted to pass Vehicle 2 in the outside lane, the left side of Vehicle 1 struck the right side of Vehicle 2's trailer. After being struck by Vehicle 1, Vehicle 2 travelled in a westerly direction until it struck the left side of Vehicle 3's trailer with its right side.

After the initial collision with Vehicle 2, Vehicle 1 travelled south to the emergency lane where it rear-ended Vehicle 3's trailer. Upon being struck by Vehicle 1, Vehicle 3 moved slightly forward where a portion of the left side of the vehicle struck Pedestrian 1, a mechanic working on the vehicle’s batteries.

The 35-year-old mechanic from Lake Butler was listed with minor injuries. A 40-year-old female passenger from Kenner, LA in Vehicle 2 received serious injuries. While all other drivers/passengers were reported as receiving minor or no injurie, later information revealed that a young child was also injured.

The driver and passenger in Vehicle 3, from Miami, were not wearing seatbelts. All others were belted in according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Charges in this investigation are pending.
