HIGH SPRINGS ‒ On Monday, May 13, at approximately 8:30 a.m., a passerby alerted sheriff’s office deputies about a suspicious device lying in the parking lot of Billy's Santa Fe Bar on South U.S. 441 near the High Springs/Alachua County line.
Columbia County deputies blocked off the area and assistance was requested from the High Springs Police Department and the Alachua County Sheriff's Office bomb squad.
Upon closer inspection, it was determined that the device did not contain any active explosive components. The device was collected by the bomb squad and the scene was deemed to be clear of any other concerns.
Investigation will continue to determine how the device got there. There is no on-going concern to the community associated with this incident and the scene has been cleared. Anyone with information about this may contact the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office at 386-719-2005.
