ALACHUA – Two brothers were arrested after a domestic dispute in which police say one brother pushed their 67-year-old grandmother to the ground and the other stabbed his brother with a knife.
The incident also prompted nearby Mebane Middle School to briefly enter a secure status as a precaution, according to the Alachua Police Department.
Officers responded at about 1:02 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, to a residence in the 14000 block of Northwest 167th Place after receiving a report of a stabbing.
Because of the home’s proximity to Mebane Middle School, the school was placed in secure status while officers responded. The status was lifted after police secured the scene and determined there was no threat to the school.
When officers arrived, they found 23-year-old Jahiem Darnathan Foye outside the residence with blood on his clothing and injuries to his left arm and hand, according to APD. Officers provided medical aid and found two blood-covered knives on the ground near the residence.
Police said Foye and his brother, 19-year-old Trevian Semaj Towns, had been arguing inside the home. Towns reportedly locked Foye out of the residence following the argument.
The brothers’ 67-year-old grandmother attempted to let Foye back inside by opening the door and propping it open. Police said Towns then pushed his grandmother to the ground.
According to APD, Foye became upset after Towns pushed their grandmother, armed himself with knives and stabbed Towns near the front door. Towns suffered a stab wound near his left hand.
Police said Towns then retreated to a bedroom and locked the door. Foye allegedly followed him while still armed and stabbed at the bedroom door while attempting to reach Towns.
Foye sustained cuts to his left forearm and left index finger during the confrontation. Police said the injuries suffered during the incident were not life-threatening.
Foye was arrested on charges of aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
Towns was arrested on a charge of battery on a person 65 years of age or older.
