D&S Show Supports FCA Ministry

ALACHUA – With its bell gleaming in the Saturday sun, a bright red antique firetruck commanded attention among the polished cars and trucks gathered on the grass outside the O’Steens’ Car Barn.

The unusual vehicle was one of the entries displayed Sept. 19 during the D&S Classic Car Show, a community fundraiser benefiting the North Central Florida Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

The show, held at 16811 NW County Road 241 near Alachua, welcomed everything from carefully restored classics to imports and lifted trucks. Owners competed for awards in Ford, General Motors, Mopar, import, truck and other categories.

Spectators attended free, while vehicle owners paid $25 to enter the show. Guests also had an opportunity to step inside the O’Steens’ private car collection in exchange for a donation of any amount.

The morning was about more than chrome, horsepower and memories of cars once seen cruising local roads. Organizers added a touch of 1950s fashion with a classy-dressed contest for women and girls.

Cash prizes went to the top three contestants in each division. The women’s division offered prizes ranging from $100 to $250, while winners in the girls’ division received between $75 and $125.

Food was available throughout the event, which also included a 50/50 raffle and prize drawing. Awards and contest prizes were presented during the show’s final half-hour.

Organizers said all proceeds would support the North Central Florida FCA, a Christian ministry serving coaches and student-athletes. A fundraising total and attendance figures were not yet available.
