Norbert B. Ward, 89, passed away at the Gainesville VA Medical Center on Oct. 19, 2013. Mr. Ward served as an Army medic during World War II. He was born in Paintsville, Ky., on November 21, 1923 and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce.

He resided in Nicholasville, Ky., where he worked as an accountant until his retirement. He married Margaret Jean Blackford and they moved to Alachua, Fla., in 2006. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and attended St. Madeleine Catholic Church in High Springs, Fla. His interests included gardening, genealogy, bell ringing choir, and playing bingo with friends at the Cleather Hathcock Community Center in Alachua.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; brother, John P. Ward (Madeleine) of Nicholasville; sister, Charlotte Gallagher (Bernard) of Beltsville, Md., as well as his many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and stepchildren, Bill Blackford, Linda Terrel, Rita Pasmore, Roger Blackford, Janice Moser and their children.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013 at 4 p.m. at St. Madeleine Catholic Church, 17155 NW U.S. Highway 441, High Springs, Fla., with Fr. Sebastian K. George as celebrant. A reception will follow.

Mr. John Earl Southerland, Sr., 82, of Alachua, passed away peacefully at the E.T. York Haven Hospice in Gainesville on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013 after an extended illness. Mr. Southerland was born Dec. 4, 1930 in Bradford County to the late Willie and Willia Mae Southerland. Mr. Southerland has lived most of his life in the Alachua County area and retired as a truck driver of the Copeland Sausage Company. Mr. Southerland was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the Johnstown Baptist Church.

Mr. Southerland is survived by his loving wife, Bertha Mae Southerland of Alachua; daughters, Diane S. Rush of Citra and Denise S. Crosby (Donald) of Hawthorne; sons, Johnny E. Southerland, Jr. (LuJune) and J. Allen Southerland of Alachua; brother, Bruce D. Southerland of High Springs; sisters, Hazel S. Varnes of Lake Butler and Iva S. Harrelson of Florahome. Five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Southerland will be conducted on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013 in the chapel of Archer Funeral Home. Internment will follow in the New Zion Cemetery in LuLu. Floyd A. Seaton, 80, longtime resident of the Hague Community passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013 at his residence. He was a retired heavy equipment operator, a Veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Baptist Faith.

He was survived by his loyal companion, Patricia Rojas of Hague, a daughter, Deborah (Freeman) Seay of Lake Butler; sons Floyd Anthony Seaton of High Springs, Lyle (Macey) Seaton and Rusty (Sharon) Seaton both of Hague; brother, Louis Seaton of Kentucky; three sisters, Genevra DeVries, Dorothy Bryant both of Gainesville and Viola Allen of Fort Myers. Eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Ronald Jefferson Watson, born March 8, 1955, died unexpectedly on Oct. 5, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Watson was employed by the City of Alachua and had been there for 17 years. He attended Forest Grove Baptist Church. He loved football (Georgia and FSU) and also loved fishing.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Watson; mother, Juanita Whiddon; his brother, Rudolph Watson, and his sister, Charlotte Smith. He is survived by his sisters, Glenda Herrin of Alachua and Shirley Smith of Bronson, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Evans-Carter Funeral Home, 220 N. Main Street, High Springs, Fla.
