Mrs. L.J. Smith, 93, passed away Aug. 31, 2013 at the Senatobia Convalescent Center and Rehab in Senatobia, Ms., after struggling with dementia and heart problems. She was born July 20, 1920 in Bell, Fla., to James A. Brock and Lallie L. Caraway Brock.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Smith Jr., son John Henry Smith III, grandson John Henry Smith IV, parents James and Lallie Brock and brothers R.J. Brock (Rena) and Leon Brock (Nita) and sister Lavonne Brock.

She is survived by daughters Nancy Leona Smith of Senatobia and Elizabeth Ann Smith of Newberry, Fla.; brothers Glen Brock (Eloise) of Dade City, Fla., and Edison Brock (Wilma) of St. Petersburg; grandchildren Sharon Lynn Bennett (Donnie) of Senatobia, Ms., Carla Beckman (Tony) of San Ramon, Calf., Christopher Dean Smith(Mary) of Newberry and one adopted granddaughter, Jamie Smith Craig of Gainesville, Fla.; great grandchildren Matthew Paul and Rachel Elizabeth Bennett of Senatobia, Ms., Lauren Brooke and Katelyn Grace Smith both of Newberry, Ryan Adam Ward of Lake Butler, Fla., Zander Beckman of San Ramon, Calf., and Robert Brian Ward (Victoria), who is serving in the Marines.

Visitation will be at Williams - Thomas West area, Sept. 11, 2013 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Newberry Sept. 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in Union Baptist Cemetery.

Robert Taylor, 65, of Fort White, passed away at his home Saturday, July 20, 2013.

Mr. Taylor is survived by wife Irene Taylor, Fort White; son, Damien Taylor, Greensville, S.C.; stepdaughter, Shamika Robinson, Ocala; stepson, James Grady, Salisbury, Md., and other relatives and friends.

Viewing for Mr. Taylor will be held Friday, July 26, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. in Fort White at Pentecostal Believers Church, SW Amiel Court; Mother Rosa Bryant, pastor. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 27 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Jordan Road, Fort White; Rev. Donnell Sanders, pastor.

Samuel Mills passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013. He was born in High Springs to the late Robert and Reader Keith Mills.

Mr. Mills was a faithful member of Allen Chapel AME Church, High Springs.

He is survived by daughter, Minnie Jewel Wilson; sister, Bertella Hodges; stepchildren, Anita L. Hodges, Roslyn Muse, Kevin Muse and Rudolph Muse; nieces, nephews, grandchildren and other relatives.

Viewing for Mr. Mills will be Wednesday, July 17, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted, Thursday at 11 a.m. at Allen Chapel AME, located at 10 SE Martin Luther King Blvd., High Springs, Pastor, James McDaniel. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Lee Billie Thacker, 83, passed away July 9, 2013 at Haven Hospice after a lengthy illness. He was born Nov. 22, 1929 in Pike County, Ky., to Elzie and Brooksie (Hurley) Thacker. He was a plumber and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Warden-Thacker; brothers, Royal Thacker and Elzie Thacker Jr., and sister Fontilla Dean; six children, Sue Hunt, Renee Carol, Denise McDaniel, Teresa Matiacio, Randall Thacker and Drandall Thacker; two step-children, Brain Warden and Melissa Hill.

He was much loved by his children, step-children, grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great grandchildren and by many friends. He will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 24455 NW 174th Avenue, High Springs with President David Bruck conducting. Arrangements are under the care of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd Street, Gainesville, Fla.

Claude W. White, Sr., 96, longtime area farmer and cattle raiser departed this life Sunday, July 14, 2013 at North Florida Regional Medical Center. Mr. White was the oldest living member of Forest Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Beville White of 67 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Annie Lou Owens, Alachua; one son; Billy White, Alachua; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and three great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 18 at Forest Grove Baptist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, 6 p.m. til 8 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in Forest Grove Cemetery under the direction of Evans-Carter Funeral Home, High Springs, 386-454-3444.
