The City of Newberry, Florida is seeking a Director of Planning Services spanning the full spectrum of current and comprehensive planning duties encountered by a developing city of 5,200 population.

Newberry, located within the western portion of Alachua County, Florida, approximately 12 miles from Gainesville and the University of Florida, encompasses 55 square miles of primarily rural lands, with a 10 square mile urban service area at its center.

Newberry has a well-documented vision and is fast becoming a sports tourism destination for a variety of sports, with a world class 16 field baseball complex and an U.S. Olympic Development Training Center for indoor and outdoor archery.

Successful performance of the Planning Director work will require extensive professional technical background, as well as, skills, in Economic Development, regional tourism marketing and the development and maintenance of comprehensive economic development strategies. The position also requires profession technical background in reviewing and processing development related applications.

Requirements include a Bachelors Degree with specialization in economics. A Masters Degree in Planning and Urban Development is preferred. Coursework should be supplemented by seven (7) years of professional planning and economic development experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The City of Newberry, Florida is seeking a Director of Planning Services spanning the full spectrum of current and comprehensive planning duties encountered by a developing city of 5,200 population.

Newberry, located within the western portion of Alachua County, Florida, approximately 12 miles from Gainesville and the University of Florida, encompasses 55 square miles of primarily rural lands, with a 10 square mile urban service area at its center.

Newberry has a well-documented vision and is fast becoming a sports tourism destination for a variety of sports, with a world class 16 field baseball complex and an U.S. Olympic Development Training Center for indoor and outdoor archery.

Successful performance of the Planning Director work will require extensive professional technical background, as well as, skills, in Economic Development, regional tourism marketing and the development and maintenance of comprehensive economic development strategies. The position also requires profession technical background in reviewing and processing development related applications.

Requirements include a Bachelors Degree with specialization in economics. A Masters Degree in Planning and Urban Development is preferred. Coursework should be supplemented by seven (7) years of professional planning and economic development experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
