ALACHUA – Legacy Park will serve as the stage for a youth-centered dance performance later this month as Dance Alive National Ballet and the City of Alachua present the second annual Alachua Spring Concert.
The performance is scheduled for March 29 at 3 p.m. and will feature student dancers from DANB’s youth performing group, The Next Generation, alongside participants in its outreach program, danceAbout.
Now in its second year, the collaborative event brings together experienced student performers and younger dancers who have been participating in weekly classes through the danceAbout program since February. The outreach initiative, supported by the City of Alachua and program sponsors, provides dance instruction to students at no cost.
The concert will showcase a variety of dance disciplines performed by more than 30 students, including graduating seniors Leah Perine, Leo Cuevas and Irma Impink. The program will also feature a staged presentation of the “Don Quixote Suite,” choreographed by co-directors Rachel Ridley and Tales Ribeiro.
DANB soloist Stirling Kolb is scheduled to appear as a guest performer in the role of Basilio, performing opposite Leah Perine as Kitri.
Organizers say the performance is designed to give young dancers the opportunity to develop their skills and gain stage experience while participating in a collaborative production. The Next Generation program focuses on providing additional instruction, choreography and performance opportunities for youth and teens.
The concert will also include a special appearance by students from the danceAbout program, offering younger participants the opportunity to perform alongside more experienced dancers.
Admission will be available at the door the day of the performance. Tickets are $8 for adults, and youth admission is free.
Proceeds from the event will support Dance Alive National Ballet’s outreach programming.
