NEWBERRY – A 46-year-old Newberry woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison after a jury found her guilty of burglarizing a former employer’s business while wearing a mask to conceal her identity.
According to a sworn complaint filed by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Enos Nail Salon, 13005 S.W. First Road, Suite 133, was burglarized June 29, 2023, and about $700 was taken.
Investigators said Carrie Elizabeth Webb, who had been fired from the business about a month earlier, was familiar with its cash-handling procedures.
Surveillance video showed Webb approaching the business wearing a mask, hoodie and gloves, entering a code into a key box and retrieving a key, according to the report. She then unlocked the door, went directly to a drawer containing a bank bag and took $650 before removing an additional $50 from the cash register. The incident lasted about two minutes, investigators said.
By the time the complaint was filed in April 2024, Webb had moved to New Smyrna Beach. She was arrested in St. Johns County about a week later and released on bail.
In March 2026, prosecutors formally charged Webb with burglary of an unoccupied structure while wearing a mask. A theft charge was not pursued.
A jury found Webb guilty April 1, 2026. Judge Robert Groeb sentenced her the same day to 10 years in state prison. Webb has filed an appeal.
