Velma D. King, 65, passed on Tuesday, September 20, 2011.

She was born to the late Albert and Linnie Cook Davis in High Springs, Fla.

Mrs. King was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church under the leadership of Rev. Clarence DeSue.  She served as a Lay Speaker, Worship Leader, a member of the United Methodist Women, the PPR Committee, Break Bread Ministry Bible teacher and her greatest passion-Adult Sunday School Teacher.

She graduated from A. L. Mebane Class of 1963 and continued her education at Bethune-Cookman College, Daytona, Fla.

She was a sergeant with the Department of Corrections, retiring after 32 years of service.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister

Survivors include her husband, Fraze “Nuddy” King; children, Zuniga King and Aubrey Breon (Magen) King; stepchildren Fraze King, Jr., of New Jersey; Valerie King of Lake City and Doris King of Gainesville; grandchildren Jasmyne King of Lake City; and Breona King of Gainesville; step grandchild, Terrell Buiey and step great, grandson Tylan Buiey; sisters, Irene Adams and Roberta Adams, both of Philadelphia, Penn.; brothers, Lenard Davis of High Springs, Fla., Darnell (Helen) Davis of Maryland, Vernon (Joyce) Davis of Orlando, Fla., Alvin (Kim) Davis of High Springs, Fla., and Frank Davis of Atlanta, Ga.

A service for Mrs. King was held Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Female Protective Society Temple, Gainesville, Fla.  Burial followed in Pine Hill Cemetery, High Springs, Fla.
