Charles Buford Floyd, Sr, age 81, died on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Floyd was born in Newberry, Fla., to Jonathan “Jack” and Lillie Hull Floyd on September 14, 1930.

He was predeceased by three brothers and four sisters.

He was a graduate of Newberry High School.  He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Kidd during the Korean War.

Mr. Floyd and his wife, Evelyn, lived in Gainesville from 1963 until 1990 when they moved to their home they built in Bell, Fla. in 1990. Mr. Floyd obtained his accounting education from La Salle Extension University and retired in 1991 from Florida Farm Bureau after 19 years as an insurance accountant where he became well known as “Mr. Premium Finance” due to his successful debt collection and auditing abilities.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Evelyn Polk Floyd, Bell, Fla., his daughter and son-in-law, Diana (Stephen) Floyd Ockay of Anniston, Ala., his son and daughter-in-law, Charlie (Laurie) Floyd of Gainesville, Fla., four grandchildren, Christopher Floyd and Kelli Murphy of Gainesville, Fla., Stephanie Wilson and Samantha Ockay of Anniston, Ala., and three great grandchildren, Kinsley, Brinleigh and Haileigh.

A Service of Remembrance will be held Sunday, October 9 at 2 p.m. at the University City Church of Christ, 4626 NW 8th Avenue, Gainesville, Fla.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions should be made to University City Church of Christ in Remembrance of Charles B. Floyd, Sr.
