Longtime High Springs resident, JL “Whiz” Freeman, Jr. left this world to be home with the Lord Friday, July 15, 2016 at Haven Hospice. JL was born in Homewood, Alabama on Nov. 10, 1934.
A man of many names, Whiz, Skeeter 1, Trouble, Antique man, but our favorite name for him is, dad! During his lifetime, JL lived and worked in Alabama and Florida, making Florida his home for over 55 years. He enjoyed his positions at Cape Canaveral-NASA, PanAm, Shands, and JL retired from the University of Florida after 25 years in December 1999. He enjoyed travelling, his children, and was an avid Alabama and Florida Gator fan.
JL is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Anna Brent Appling, of Jasper, Alabama; children, Martin Freeman, Jana Valentine, Jennifer Freeman and Kristi Prescott; grandchildren, Angela Barker, Darren Weaver, Eryn Freeman, Haley Freeman, Austin Valentine, Dalton Valentine, and Ryan Freeman-Bennett. He has one great grandchild, Austin Barker, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. JL is the only son of the late Ozzie (Hall) and JL Freeman, Sr., Boaz, Alabama. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Evelyn Horton, Willie Jim Crutcher, and Jackie Mallory. The Family would like to invite you to: A Celebration of life in honor of…
