Mary Helen Hindery, of Alachua, passed away peacefully at NFRMC on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, from complications with pneumonia. Mary was born Nov. 21, 1959 at Alachua General Hospital to Eleonore "Honey" Sykes Hindery and Lucian J. “Lu” Hindery. She was predeceased by her father, former Alachua County Sheriff L. J. “Lu” Hindery. She is survived by her mother, Eleonore “Honey” Sykes Hindery; brothers Mike and Dan (Jane) Hindery; niece Dana (Jeff) Wilkins; nephew Louis Hindery; great niece Mayson Wilkins; great nephew Grady Wilkins; Aunt Billie Bob Sykes; and cousins Susan, Pat, Chip, and Robert.

Mary lived with her family on their beautiful farm in Alachua. Mary was able to move in to a group home through the ARC of Alachua County two years ago, and enjoyed the many activities they provided. She has been a very active member of the ARC of Alachua County since its beginnings. Mary also enjoyed collecting aluminum tabs for the Ronald McDonald House, where she collected more than 60 gallons of tabs! Mary was an acolyte for many years at both St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church and Christ Anglican Fellowship, both in High Springs. Most important of all, Mary was a "Huge Gator Fan." She was a football season ticket holder for more than 30 years.

Graveside services were held at Newnansville Cemetery in Alachua, on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the ARC of Alachua, 3303 NW 83rd St., Gainesville, FL 32606, or to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.

A memorial service for Lindsey Joe Summer will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2014, 2 p.m. at the Poe Springs Park Lodge, High Springs, Fla.

Mr. Summers, age 51, passed away in Lebanon, Ky on April 25, 2014. He was born in Alachua General Hospital, Gainesville, Fla., on Sept. 27, 1962 to parents Betty and C. Guy Summers, Jr.

Mr. Summers was raised in High Springs, Fla., and graduate from Santa Fe High School in 1980. He was employed by James Averitt of Meadowbrook Horse Farm in Lebanon, Ky.

He is survived by his parents; a son, Shane Summers; a daughter, Rachel Summers; two sisters, Elizabeth Summers, Emily Wheeler (Alan); a brother, C. Guy Summers, III (Mindy); many nieces, nephews, great nephews and one great niece, as well as his most faithful companion, Snoop, his dog.

Mr. Willie James Wingfield Jr., 49, of Fort White, Fla., passed Friday, May 10, 2014. He is survived by wife, Cassandra Johnson Wingfield; children, Kendona Wingfield, Jamar Johnson, Willie Wingfield III and Erica Mack; five grandchildren; mother, Mattie Oliver Wingfield; sisters, Wanda and Deann; brother, Charles; father-in-law, Lawrence Clarence Johnson and other relatives and friends.

Phyllis K. Withey, 75, of Alachua, Fla., passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 in Gainesville, Fla. She was born in Washington County, Pa., to the late Phillip and Frances (Ingram) Hickman. She loved flowers and animals. She was a fan of old country music and enjoyed attending country western concerts and watching wrestling.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Danielle McCauley. She is survived by her husband, Thomas L. (Tom) Withey of Alachua; daughters, Sandra K. (William) Pease of Brooker, Fla., Tyna D. (Bill) Patterson of Hopedale, Ohio; son, Gary J. Withey of Alachua and great granddaughter, Samantha Waters of Branford, Fla . 

A memorial service may be held at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Worth Cremation Service of Florida.

Elizabeth U. (Betty) Hitchcock, age 85, passed away on April 29, 2014.

Mrs. Betty Hitchcock was born in Pahokee, Fla., on Dec. 27, 1928, to Edward and Julia Unwin. She married Robert (Bob) Hitchcock in 1947. The couple relocated to Alachua, where Betty and Bob together operated Hitchcock’s supermarkets for many years. Betty loved her customers and found great joy in serving others. Her love for people was evident, and her acts of kindness touched the lives of many. She was a devoted Christian and member of the Alachua Church of Christ, a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Predeceased by her husband, five brothers, and three sisters, Betty is survived by her son, Alan (Cathy) Hitchcock of Alachua and daughter, Kathy (Marvin ) Weaver of Trenton, Fla.; grandchildren Laura Brown, Ryan Weaver, Samantha Ward, Jake Hitchcock, Andrea Turner, Valerie McMahon, and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hitchcock will be held at the Alachua Church of Christ on Friday, May 2, 2014, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014, from 6-8 p.m., at the Evans-Carter Funeral Home in High Springs, Florida. Services are under the direction of Evans-Carter Funeral Home.
