Elizabeth U. (Betty) Hitchcock, age 85, passed away on April 29, 2014.

Mrs. Betty Hitchcock was born in Pahokee, Fla., on Dec. 27, 1928, to Edward and Julia Unwin. She married Robert (Bob) Hitchcock in 1947. The couple relocated to Alachua, where Betty and Bob together operated Hitchcock’s supermarkets for many years. Betty loved her customers and found great joy in serving others. Her love for people was evident, and her acts of kindness touched the lives of many. She was a devoted Christian and member of the Alachua Church of Christ, a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Predeceased by her husband, five brothers, and three sisters, Betty is survived by her son, Alan (Cathy) Hitchcock of Alachua and daughter, Kathy (Marvin ) Weaver of Trenton, Fla.; grandchildren Laura Brown, Ryan Weaver, Samantha Ward, Jake Hitchcock, Andrea Turner, Valerie McMahon, and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hitchcock will be held at the Alachua Church of Christ on Friday, May 2, 2014, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014, from 6-8 p.m., at the Evans-Carter Funeral Home in High Springs, Florida. Services are under the direction of Evans-Carter Funeral Home.
