obituary2012 160 80    Stansell Hoyt Everett, 87, of High Springs, Fla., passed away Jan. 31, 2013 at Lake City Medical Center in Lake City, Fla.

Mr. Everett was born in High Springs to Aren and Attie Everett. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 – 1946. He worked for CSX Railroad from 1948 and retired in 1987. He also served as a wildlife officer for Gilchrist County from 1957-1959.

Mr. Everett was preceded in death by his father and mother and two brothers, Wyndell and Britt Everett.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian Everett of High Springs; four daughters, Arlene (Mark) Martin of Daytona Beach, Fla., Jena (Mike) Anchultz of Daytona Beach, Kimberly (Bob) Schwartz of High Springs, Angie (Jim) Golden of Orlando, Fla.; one son, Kelly (Brandi) Everett of Brandford, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Feb. 3 at 3 p.m. at the High Springs Cemetery, High Springs. Visitation was at Evans Carter Funeral Home, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m.

obituary2012 160 80 Paul H. Smith, 89, of Shelbyville, Tenn., died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Heritage Medical Center. He was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Marine Corps. After returning home from the war he farmed, and raised horses in Alachua, Fla. He later owned horse barns in Georgia, Tennessee, Illinois and Missouri specializing in Tennessee Walking horses. He was a member of the Walking Horse Breeders Association, a lifetime member of the Horse Training Association and served as a judge.

He was the son of the late Floyd M. and Barcie Jones Smith of Alachua. He is survived by his wife, Lena Newell Smith of Shelbyville; two daughters, Patricia Ann Luckett of Ooltewah, Tenn. and Brenda Kay Friar of Ringgold, Ga.; son Kenneth Floyd Smith of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters, Kathleen Smith O'Steen of Alachua and Floy-Ann Smith Gober of Arlington, Texas; brother, Fred Smith of Arlington; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one step-grandchild, and three step great-grandchildren.

A military funeral service was held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Shelbyville on Jan. 24, 2013.

Louia Clifton (L.C.) Thomas, 77, of High Springs, Fla., passed away Jan. 21, 2013 at E.T. York Hospice Care Center of Gainesville, Fla.

Mr. Thomas was born in High Springs, Fla., to Clifton Thomas and Estelle Parrish Thomas. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Merchant Seaman.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Don Thomas; sisters, Lonnie Crews, Gladys Thomas and Berta Moore. He is survived by two brothers, Glenn R. “Turk” (JoAnn) Thomas of High Springs, W.E. “Karo” (Carolyn)  Thomas of High Springs; three sisters, Belinda Hollingsworth of High Springs, Barbara Ann Bryan of Alachua, Fla., Kate Davis of Warner Robins, Ga., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place, Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, 6-8 p.m. at Evans-Carter Funeral Home .Graveside service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, 11 a.m. at the High Springs Cemetery, 400 NW 8th Avenue, High Springs, with Rev. Morris C. Beck and Rev. Jacob Hollingsworth officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90 Blvd, Gainesville, FL 32606.

Charles Benjamin (C.B.) Freeman, 86, passed away, Jan. 24, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Freeman was born in Barwick, Ga., to George and Maude Freeman. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He was a farmer and longtime resident of Alachua for 67 years.

He is survived by his loving family, Martha Monaghan of Bradenton, Fla.; Barbara Jeffords Lemley of Lake City, Fla.; Diane Jeffords White of Orlando; Jan Jeffords-Schenck of Marietta, Ga.; and a sister, Maude Truluck of Alachua.

Graveside Service will be held Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, 11 a.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery at Traxler in Alachua, Fla. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, Jan. 27, 4-6 p.m. at Evans-Carter Funeral Home in High Springs, Fla.

Wilbur Cason, 86, resident of the Forest Grove Community, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at Signature Health Care in Gainesville, Fla.

Mr. Cason was a native Floridian born in Fort White, Fla., a veteran of World War II, U.S. Army, a longtime farmer in Dade and Alachua counties and a member of Forest Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Blanton Cason; one son, Gary (Charisse) Cason, Boca Raton, Fla.; one daughter, Vicki (Daniel) Anderson, Wakulla County; one sister, Letha Albritton, Lake City; five granddaughters, Cresha, Celeste, Kinsey, Crystal, Chanda and four great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 17, 6-8 p.m. at Evans-Carter Funeral Home, High Springs, Fla. Graveside services will be conducted Friday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. at Forest Grove Cemetery with Reverend Warren Chesser, officiating; interment in Forest Grove Cemetery.
